SAT/ACT Score Improvement. Individualized One-on-One Coaching. Time Tested.
Marie Cannon-Burnard: The Consummate Coach
Marie is a born coach. Growing up, she was a ranked USTA
tennis player. Her mother saw to it that she always had a coach,
with a stated mandate of helping her daughter maximize her
potential. As a high school student herself, Marie took to being
coached, working hard to achieve her personal best.
After earning her degree in Elementary Education, Marie
taught for five years in the Florida public school system and
is a Florida-certified teacher. Then, as a single mother of two
young children, needing more flexibility in her work schedule,
Marie decided to take her passion for student achievement
into the field of one-on-one tutoring. After five years of
generalized tutoring, Marie enrolled in a graduate program
in school psychology, with a focus on testing and evaluation, becoming a student of IQ testing, reading and interpreting
IEPs, identifying students with learning disabilities, as well
as identifying gifted students.
Next, Marie used her advanced knowledge of testing to examine and understand exactly
how the SAT/ACT tests are designed to challenge. She then began developing and refining
her coaching methodology on how to prepare students of any level, with or without learning
disabilities, to be successful against these tests. Since 2002, Marie has tutored exclusively on
SAT/ACT score improvement, able to coach effectively in all subjects. More than 80% of
her 500+ students have received academic/sports scholarships, totaling over $1.6 million,
with many of them gaining admission to their dream school.
With her technical knowledge of SAT/ACT test structure, her skill in coaching and her undying
dedication to student success, Marie is in the elite category of SAT/ACT score improvement coaches,
nationally. Tampa is lucky to have her.
In her home life, Marie practiced what she preaches. Her daughter received The Presidential
Academic Award at the University of Tampa, and recently graduated UT’s Nursing program with
honors and currently works in the Neurological ICU. Her son just graduated as valedictorian of his
high school class, and is attending Vanderbilt University on a scholarship. Today, an empty-nester, Marie is dedicating more time to her tutoring services. Along with her husband, Mark, an electrical
engineer, Marie lives with their two dogs in Hunters Green, a secure community in Tampa, Florida.
P.S. The above was written by a parent of one of Marie’s student success stories. She recently
told my daughter that she is “as fierce as ever and is going to set the world on fire.”
At least in Marie's case, the saying is true: “once a coach, always a coach.”
